Film Script
It’s been said that a great film can be made only from a great screenplay, A screenplay is the heart and soul of a film. The concepts of theme, plot, character, act structure – all the basic elements of writing a great screenplay. Here 'Film script' means 'Screenplay' ... "Scene-by-scene writing version of the film." .....You can also called it a 'Writer's Script!'
The term 'film script' is also used for 'Shooting script', but 'shooting script' is ... "shot-by-shot 'last & final' writing version of the film." .....You can also called it a 'Director's Script!'
Director
If the producer is the one who decides to raise money and build a ship, then the director is the person he hires to captain that ship. A director is the driving force each day behind what exactly gets captured by the camera. How to work with actors, what shots to use (and which ones to avoid), how to tell a story using moving images, the concepts of real time versus film time, how to block a scene and how to command on set.
Director can make several changes in the script (screenplay) while preparing the shooting script. In Hollywood, Movie Director writes screenplay in collabration with the writer, so that script changes can be made (on the spot) during the writing process from the begining! Actually, film director is the boss and writer has to write as per his satisfaction; after all director is responsible for the whole film.
As a director, one has all the burdan. Diretor is 'the captain of the
ship'. He should be prepared & clear, what he needs on screen. If
the thing is not clear in his mind, what idea or suggestion his will
give to his actors & technicions.
A good script can be spoiled by a
bad director & a good director can make good film from a poor
script.

You may have seen in the Film Credits / Titles, ie. Story, Screenplay & Dialogues by (Name of the Writer); then why it is also shown that, Written & Directed by (Name of the Director); ....... As i said above that 'Shooting Script' is prepared from the Screenplay by the Director of the film, So he deserves the credit, as a writer too!
